Office corridor and Yorktown-area projects
The south end of Lombard along Butterfield Road and Highland Avenue is a corporate campus district that has been in constant flux, with older office buildings being converted, repurposed or replaced and the shopping center area seeing apartments and outlots go up. Those sites run professional general contractors who keep one or two deluxe flushing units and a handwashing station going from groundbreaking through punch list, placed on the construction lot behind the fence and serviced weekly. Contractors working the outlots that face Butterfield usually request the unit be set behind the building so it stays out of the drive-through sightline.
Lilac Time and the downtown calendar
Every May the lilacs at the village's garden park bloom and Lombard throws a multi-week festival that ends with a parade down Main Street. Vendors, the beer garden and the craft fair each rent units placed on side streets and the Metra commuter lot with village approval, and we run an early-morning service each parade weekend day. Summer follows with concerts on the common, the cruise nights on St. Charles Road and the outdoor pool season, each with its own short-term placement on park district lots.
Trail events on the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail use the trailhead parking off Main or Grace Street, where a couple of standards and a handwashing station cover a morning ride or run.
Home remodels north of the tracks
The neighborhoods north of St. Charles Road are a mix of split-levels, Cape Cods and postwar ranches on generous lots without alleys, so a remodeling unit goes at the end of the driveway or on a side yard with the homeowner's say-so. Whole-house remodels, second-story additions and pool installs are the common jobs.
Lombard's village hall has a permit desk for construction and for anything placed on a village street or parkway; the driveway avoids that entirely. Service comes weekly on a DuPage loop shared with Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace.
