A rental in Pilsen, start to finish
A typical order starts with a contractor gutting a storefront on 18th Street or a landlord rebuilding a rear porch on a worker's cottage off Allport or Throop. They call with the address and a start date, we ask three things: is there an alley, is there a gate wide enough for a unit on a dolly, and how long the job is expected to run. The next business day the unit arrives, usually early enough to beat the school drop-off crowd around Benito Juarez and the 18th Street Pink Line stop.
From there the unit is on a weekly service day, pumped and washed down and restocked, until the crew calls to end the rental. Pickup happens on the next scheduled pass, and if a job stalls waiting on inspections, the unit simply stays at the same weekly rate of service without a new delivery.
Riverfront industry and the Cermak corridor
South of 21st Street the neighborhood turns to brick warehouses, produce distributors, the old power-plant site and the barge terminals along the Sanitary and Ship Canal. Those sites take standard units at the gate or beside the scale house, and turnarounds at the larger plants add a temporary cluster for the contractor crews. Cermak Road itself carries heavy truck traffic all day, so deliveries there aim for the mid-morning gap after the first shift is in. The Fisk site and the lots along Loomis have drawn film crews and redevelopment work in recent years, and base camps there rent deluxe flushing units for cast alongside standard units for the build crews.
Fiesta weekends, Harrison Park and the street
The Lower West Side hosts one of the city's larger neighborhood festivals in late summer, closing blocks of 18th Street and filling Harrison Park with stages and food stalls. Festival units go in on the Thursday before, staged in rows on the park's paved edges and along the closed street, with handwashing stations grouped near the food rows and ADA accessible stalls at each end.
Placing anything on a public street or sidewalk in this ward means a CDOT public-way permit, which the festival organizer or the block club already carries; for a private gathering in a gangway lot or a rear yard, no street placement is involved and the unit goes behind the building. Winter freezes the canal-side lots hard, so long-term industrial units get cold-weather treatment from November on.
